Johann Clausen

Born in Germany, Johann Clausen is as much a child of the 80s as he is one of nature. His photos transcend their subjects, liberating them from their function to reveal new ways of understanding them.
Paying close attention to shape, texture and detail, Johann highlights the sculptural qualities of objects, celebrating their delicate nature. Characterised by daring abstract staging, his work focuses on materiality, revealing the beauty of the natural world in timeless and iconic ways.

For Foodprint, Johann visited Croatia and Cyprus.
In Croatia, he captured the landscape on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea and visually explored one of the most essential ingredients of cooking and food preservation: salt.
In Cyprus, he shot in a futuristic freight-farm where fresh greens are cultivated, sheltered from the island’s extreme summer temperatures while in parallel, he created a series of portraits of fruits growing in an abandoned grove, revealing their beauty in a timeless way.
